March For Our Lives
I decided to photograph the March For Our Lives rally in New York. I photographed it with my Mamiya 7II, which I never really used for an event like this. I would have used a 35mm camera but mine is in the shop. With 10 photos per roll, I kind had to to really observe and pick the photos that I wanted to photograph. I ended shooting 3 rolls. Looking back at the photos, I would say about half of them came out good. At the beginning of the rally, it was just crowded and it was hard to move around. I really tried not the shoot too much during this time. I tried to move to more open spaces where I could come up with interesting compositions. Looking back at the photos, I should have taken a little bit more time and gotten closer to my subjects. A common problem with a lot of photographers. Most of these photos are slightly cropped and I want to get to a point where my photos just have to be cropped to be straighten.
Kodak Portra 160
I used Kodak Portra 160 for film. It was bright day and very contrasty. The differences between the shadow and highlights was like night and day. Exposure wise, I think I did okay, I didn't blow out the highlights but I wonder if I exposed more if my shadows wouldn't be too dark. Great film though, I always have a few rolls in stock for days like this.
