Negatives from Before - Post #4

There was a period were I didn’t shoot anything but black and white. I have shot color before this phase but once I started processing and printing black and white photos I didn’t stop shooting it. Until I took a color class. I started shooting slide film in the beginning and eventually moved on to color negative film. During that time I saw a new aspect and life to my photos.

I think black and white is beautiful and I will shoot it from time to time. It definitely has it’s charms and has a more classic appeal to it. It also simplifies the photo and it can make an image more abstract. I think the aspect of color that I am more drawn to is that it is less abstract. It’s a more accurate depiction of the scene. It some aspects it can be harder to shoot with color sometimes being a distraction. Black and white can also be difficult, you have to see the scene in a different way.

These photos were mostly from that color class that I took. My slides are all mixed up, so nothing is in chronological order. I love the rich, saturated colors of slide film. I don’t see myself shooting slide film in the future though. I wouldn’t count it out but I am very happy with shooting color negative film at the moment.

Most of these photos were taken in San Francisco. I have a lot more slides to go through so there will be more in the near future. Please subscribe to know when a new blog post is up and follow me on Instagram to see more photos and to stay up to date. Thank you!
